Demonstrating Quality

In November, Windham Hospital became the latest hospital in the Hartford HealthCare system to successfully convert to the new CareFusion Alaris Smart Pump System for IV therapies – a significant step in the effort to eliminate medication errors and streamline efficiencies across a single electronic health record. The conversion from the hospital’s previous Sigma Smart Pumps with Alaris Smart Pumps marks another step in enabling staff to provide all IV therapies across Hartford HealthCare with one pump

One Health Record

Windham Hospital, along with MidState Medical Center, is taking the lead in implementing the CareConnect electronic health records initiative for Hartford HealthCare’s acute care hospitals. CareConnect, powered by the Epic electronic health record software system, is a system-wide initiative with the purpose of transforming the way patient care is delivered. With new speed and accuracy, CareConnect will help fulfill the promise of more accessible, convenient, collaborative and coordinated care across the system. The initiative is the leading mechanism for delivery of the “five ones”: One health record, one standard of excellence, one bill, one registration, and one relationship. User training begins in February with the new system to go live on April 30.

Care in Any Language

In 2015, Windham Hospital began offering video and audio interpreter services for patients needing assistance through the Language Access Network. The MARTTI (My Accessible Real- Time Trusted Interpreter) device provides video interpreter services for American Sign Language and more than 55 spoken languages as well as audio services for about 200 other languages to patients 24 hours a day, seven days a week in all units of the hospital. Two of the five MARTTI units were made possible thanks to a generous gift from the Jeffrey P. Ossen Family Foundation.

Safety for Mom and New Baby

Windham Hospital became the first in the Hartford HealthCare system to successfully implement new fetal monitoring technology, called PeriGen, which is designed to increase the safety of women delivering babies. PeriGen is analysis software that offers obstetric providers and nurses unique and advanced capabilities to analyze the interaction of uterine contractions and fetal heart rates, resulting in greater patient safety.
