Defining Moments

Hartford HealthCare’s vision is to be “most trusted for personalized, coordinated care’’ and over the past year, the Central Region has advanced that vision with ambitious initiatives and humble gestures that truly define who we are and what our customers have come to expect when they seek care here.

We have entitled this report “Defining Moments”. A moment may be a soft touch on the shoulder of a frightened patient or the momentous launch of a new electronic medical record system that will truly place a complete picture of every patient’s health right at our providers’ fingertips.

A moment or momentous event, public or unheralded, every moment defines us.

One of our proudest accomplishments of the past year was the opening of the Connecticut Orthopaedic Institute at MidState Medical Center. The Institute brings together Connecticut’s best orthopaedic surgeons to create a new center for the care and recovery of patients with musculoskeletal injuries and disorders. An entire pavilion of the medical center was renovated to meet the needs of orthopaedic patients and their guests, offering 21 private rooms and valet parking.

But beautiful facilities are not enough if we cannot provide the most coordinated care within our walls. To improve safety and care coordination, The Hospital of Central Connecticut (HOCC) joined the rest of Hartford HealthCare in adopting the Epic electronic health record system. Combined with new or upgraded software for almost every other clinical application, the project known as CareConnect ensures that clinical information can be shared seamlessly no matter where the patient seeks care in our system. Although the effort was monumental, leaders and staff said it was one of the smoothest transitions they had ever been a part of.

Momentous, monumental or microscopic, every moment in the Central Region has one thing in common – it could not happen without the preparation and the hard work of every member of our team.  Whether working round the clock over a weekend to ensure that CareConnect went live without missing a beat to volunteering to shovel out cars after a heavy snowstorm or simply smiling at a stranger in a hallway, the staff of our Central Region makes EVERY moment matter, every time.

It’s what defines us and our work and I know you join us in sharing our pride in our accomplishments and the teams behind every one.
