HOCC Auxiliary’s donation to bring Staxi chairs to hospital

The Hospital of Central Connecticut – New Britain Campus Auxiliary hosted its 27th annual golf tournament on Monday, Sept. 18, at the Tunxis Country Club in Farmington. All proceeds from this past year’s tournament supported the purchase of 55 Staxi medical transport chairs for the New Britain campus.

The state-of-the-art wheelchairs are used in all areas of the hospital for ergonomically correct and comfortable transportation. To ensure optimal customer service and increase patient satisfaction, the chair is a “one-size-fits-all” that accommodates up to 500 pounds. It also features an automatic braking system and moveable arm and foot rests to allow for easy and safe entry and exit.

“The chairs have an impact on our many volunteers at the information desk whose job it is to safely transport patients and visitors throughout the hospital.”

HOCC Auxiliary President Laura Napoletano said the auxiliary is dedicated to supporting departments throughout the hospital.

“Once the immediate need for the Staxi medical transport chairs was presented at a recent board meeting, the auxiliary board unanimously approved this project,” said Napoletano. “The chairs have an impact on our many volunteers at the information desk whose job it is to safely transport patients and visitors throughout the hospital.”

Along with golfing, the tournament also featured lunch and dinner, a cocktail reception, games, prizes, and giveaways.
